We want you to be happy. If for ANY reason whatsoever you are not 100% happy with your hippo soap, we want to make it right.

If you have a question and it isn't answered below, please email us (info@bebabotanica.com) and we'll do everything we can to get you the answer you need.

Here are a few of the questions we get asked most frequently.

Q: How should I store my hippo soaps?

A: Hippo soaps prefer not to wallow when not in use. We suggest a soap dish or soap lift and a cool dry spot to store your hippo soap when not in use - or leave them wrapped and in their box until you are ready to enjoy them.

Q: What is the plastic wrapping around my hippo soap?

A: We use a product called Biolefin, which is an oxo-biodegradable plastic. It is formulated to be totally degradable in the environment, and will decompose in your compost heap leaving only water, carbon dioxide and biomass.

Q: Why is my hippo soap wrapped?

A: Hippo soaps are handmade from vegan oils and contain no parabens or preservatives. We wrap our soaps to preserve their freshness and extend their shelf life, so they are as fresh as possible when you choose to use them.

Q: What is the shelf life for my hippo soap?

A: Hippo Soaps have a shelf life of two years from date of manufacture, if they remain wrapped.

Q: Is all Beba Botanica packaging biodegradable?

A: Hippo soaps are wrapped in Biolefin, which is biodegradable, and then packed into biodegradable printed Kraft boxes. Where plastic is used, we ensure that it is environmentally sensitive and if not biodegradable, then fully recyclable.

Q: Is Hippo Soap suitable for all skin types?

A: All our soaps are hypo-allergenic and non-comodegenic. Essential oils used are within the recommended limits for safe use, and as such suitable for all skin types. If you have an allergic reaction to any of our soaps, we suggest you discontinue use and  seek medical advice as to which of the ingredients you may be allergic to, so you can avoid it in future.

Q; How big is each hippo soap?

A: Hippo soaps measure 10cm in length x 4.5 cm wide x 4.0 cm high and weigh approximately 90 grams each.

Q: What is glycerine soap... and is it natural?

A: Gylcerin soap is a natural soap made using the hot process method, with added humectants (glycerine and propylene glycol) to add additional moisturizing benefits to the soap, making it milder and gentler.

What is the difference between hot process and cold process soap?

A: Hot process soap is cooked after trace until the PH is stable and the reaction between the oils and the salt solution is complete. Hot process soaps do not require curing after they are made, and are better suited to oils which can endure higher temperatures. Hot process soap allows you to add essential oils and fragrance after cooking, which means better fragrance retention.

A: Cold Process soaps are not cooked after trace, but allowed to cure over time. This process allows one to work at lower temperatures (below 40 degrees celsius) and include botanical extracts and retain the goodness of heat sensitive oils.

Q: Which hippo soaps are cold process?

A: Our fragrance free hippo soaps are all cold process. This allows us to add large quantities of freshly pressed vegan milk. We use a blend of five vegan oils and butters - shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil and olive oil - and then a solution of coconut and almond milks.

Q: Which hippo soaps are hot process (glycerine soap)?

A: Our aromatherapy soaps, made using organic essential oils and botanical extracts, are hand crafted using vegetable oil glycerin soap - which is the best process to maximize the benefits of the essential oils in moisturizing the glycerin soap base.

Q: Where are hippo soaps made?

A: We handcraft our hippo soap in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Q: How are hippo soaps made?

A: All hippo soaps are handmade in small batches of 25, and poured into  unique hippo soap molds we created ourselves.

Q: What are hippo soaps made of?

A: Hot process glycerine soaps are made from the following blend of vegan oils: sodium safflowerate, sodium cocoate, sodium palmate, vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol - as well as various natural minerals or botanical extracts for colour and essential oils for fragrance.

A: Cold process hippo soaps are handmade from a blend of vegan oils and butters including: sodium shea butterate, sodium cocoate, sodium olivate, sodium almondate, coconut milk powder and almond milk powder.

Q: What's that gorgeous scent in my hippo soap?

A: We use organic essential oils at 1% of total weight to add therapeutic scents to our hippo soaps. Each soap has a unique blend of oils to make your bathing experience as luxurious and indulgent as possible.

Q: Why don't hippo soaps contain fragrance oils?

A: We believe in functional therapeutic wellness. This means our soaps don't just smell great - but every time you use them, they release small amounts of essential oils into the air you breath and make you feel better. They also enter your body via your skin, going to work to make your skin healthier each time you bathe.

Q: How do hippo soaps get their bright colours?

A: We use minerals, mica and clay, as well as natural botanical extracts such as indigoferra tinctoria extract, and fruit extracts to provide exciting vibrant colours which are non toxic and sustainable. Some colour even comes from teh essential oils we use. Patchouli and Orange essential oils provide rich colour to the products we use them in.
